My favorite sections were the South West, the South and the East. 1600+ miles of driving, 100+ miles of hiking, dozens of waterfalls, many hot springs, and very friendly people. Everything is pretty expensive there, but other than that, it is by far one of my favorites.

      - SayulitaThe last time I went to Sayulita was during a five-day trip at the end of January 2020 for my girlfriend’s 29th birthday surprise. It was epic for the short time we were there. It is definitely a town that I could get behind as it is very festive. The next time I have planned to go to Sayulita is early January of 2021 for an entire month. Funny enough, the last time I was in a commercial airport was that trip I mentioned above. I’ve never gone an entire year only stepping into a commercial airport once. Oh, PDX airport, and flying around in general, how I miss thee!!

Enjoyed a four day backpacking trip around the W of Torres Del Paine. Very friendly locals, good exchange rate from the US, and delicious wine and coffee everywhere I went. My first experience of South America and I was blown away by how great it was. Would go back again in a heart beat.

Chile

My time in Chile was spent enjoying walking around Santiago, enjoying the beaches/nightlife/new years in Valparaiso, to getting as far south as I’ve ever been to enjoy the gorgeous views of Patagonia. Enjoyed a four day backpacking trip around the W of Torres Del Paine. Very friendly locals, good exchange rate from the US, and delicious wine and coffee everywhere I went. My first experience of South America and I was blown away by how great it was. Would go back again in a heart beat.

First Taste Of Chile

Wednesday (January 13th) I returned from a fast moving almost-three week trip around the beautiful country of Chile. This was my first taste of Chile, and for that matter, South America. The trip ranged from numerous long flights, beautiful wineries, fireworks on the beaches of Valparaiso, taking it easy enjoying the restaurants, cafes, and parks in Santiago, overnight hiking in Southern Patagonia, and playing with Penguins as far south from home as I’d ever been. Just like any trip, it wasn’t long enough, but I had quite the adventure and am glad to share with you my first taste of Chile. (more…)

Off To Punta Arenas – Patagonia Chile

Sitting here at Gerardo’s place in Santiago, Chile. I’m getting my bag together to catch my flight for Punta Arenas with Lewis and Gerardo. Our flight leaves Santiago around 9:45pm and gets into Punta Arenas around 1am. Punta Arenas is the equivalent to going to Alaska, and silly enough, I only packed for mild-summer weather. I went to the mall here and picked up a pair of hiking books for the upcoming plan of going into Patagonia. Hopefully we don’t freeze. (more…)
